The color of the wine is deep ruby red. On the nose it is intense, with depth: black cherry and spices such as eucalyptus, balsamic and licorice, along with notes of oak and tobacco. Also in the mouth a nice complexity, a present but soft structure and a pleasant aftertaste.

Prugnolo Gentile is een kloon van Sangiovese, die duidelijk kleiner is, en meer kwaliteit en finesse inhoudt. Het is deze kloon die men gebruikt bij Salcheto om VN te maken. In 2015 was het klimaat perfect tot warm, wat de wijnen een verminderde aciditeit bezorgt en ze zacht maar vlezig maakt. Gevinifieerd volgens de oude methode "Governo Toscano": De druiven worden kort gedroogd, waardoor ze licht overrijp worden alvorens ze te persen. De Riserva is steeds minimum 3 jaar oud te rekenen vanaf januari na de oogst. Na gisten rijpt de wijn 24 maanden in houten vaten: 70% botte (groot, Slavonische eik) en 30% tonneau (kleiner, 900L, Franse eik). Hierna rijpt de wijn nog 12 maanden op fles. In totaal dus minimum 3 jaar vooraleer hij op de markt komt.

Salcheto is located in Montepulciano, Tuscany. They have been around for over thirty years and have always approached the protagonist in Tuscan wine, the Sangiovese grape, with great respect.
It is a 50 ha domain, which was the first to make its own carbon and water footprint public.
Natural yeasts and no sulphites are used to make wine.
The unique bottle, la Bordolese Toscanella, which is lighter than a normal bottle, has also been specially developed to limit the impact on the environment.
